Michael Fakesch, Marion
Musik Aus Strom
Released: November 1999
Like a lot of IDM, Fakesch (one half of Funkstrong) takes CGD blips, FXs, fragmented samples, and any other found sounds you can come up with to create the rhythms and melodies found herein. Yes, there is a close association between this album and Autechre. The brown, red, and white colors are mid to hot tempo, revolving around a rigid building block structure, just like Autechre's ep7. However, what makes this album unique is its use of hip hop elements. The first song, "Demon-Stration," mixes CGD, synth string and key melodies, and other FXs with sampled raps and bass. Interesting. Other songs take a more minimalist approach: "Jazdrive" mixes a manic big beat with atmospheric FXs and synth strings, the occasional sampled laugh, and other found sounds. All in all, this is a strong collection of IDM songs from one of the premiere IDM labels in the world.
