Jega, Spectrum

Planet Mu/Matador
Released: March 1999

This has got to be one of the weirdest techno albums I've ever heard. It is schizophrenic: one minute it's black ("Phalanx"), then it's green (Kid Siesta"), then it's grey ("Musical Chairz"), then it's the blue ("Red Mullet"), then it's red ("Nia"), then it's brown ("Unity Gain")... and the list goes on. It's wonderful! More importantly, it is original; even though Jega's music sounds like these other artists, the similarities are only on the surface. Get inside the music, listen to the interplay between the many different sounds, and you'll realise the true artistry that went into making these diverse, eclectic tracks.
